CLARENCE GOLEM
October 26, 1910 - April 29, 2004


GOLEM,  Clarence William passed from this world to the next on April 29, 2004 in his 94th year. Predeceased by his spouse Edna, he is survived by his three sons Albert (Beverly), Comox, BC, Edward, Newmarket, ON and George (Betty), Regina, SK. Clarence was the devoted Grandpa of Grant (Leann), Monica (Kirby), Quinn, Matthew, Tasha and Rachael. He was the proud Great Grandfather of Tegan, Saxon and Lena . He was predeceased by two brothers Norman and Elmer, brothers-in-law Russell Johnston and Elmer Pegelo and four sisters-in-law Irene, Margaret, Noelia and Blanche. The second son of Albert and Augusta Golem, he is survived by brothers Harvey (Mary) and Wilfred (Marion), sister Madeline Pegelo and a sister-in-law Marguerite Golem, all of Ontario, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Born and raised near Chesley , Ontario , Clarence, at the age of 17, came to the Dollard area, aboard one of the last Harvest Excursion Trains, to work for his Uncle Charlie Golem. He later went to work for David and Emma Johnston down the road taking their daughter Edna as his bride July 17, 1937 . After serving in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War, Clarence and Edna made their home in Shaunavon where Clarence was employed as welder for 23 years at Hall’s Machine Shop. In the early 70’s they lived in Chelan where Edna taught until her superannuation, and then returned to Shaunavon. While Clarence recovered from a back operation he honed his fiddling skills, which he used for the enjoyment of others until just a few weeks before his death. Clarence was an active member of First Baptist Church in Shaunavon until its closure, and of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was very much a “family man” who enjoyed not only his immediate family, but visiting with all manner of family connections.

A gathering to celebrate the life of Clarence Golem was held in the Shaunavon Legion Hall in Shaunavon on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Legion Padre Dan Esau officiating. Interment of his cremated remains followed at Hillcrest Cemetery at Shaunavon. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion attended forming a guard of honor and conducted the Legion Graveside Tribute.
